Generosity Policy

Our Generosity Policy allows anyone to participate fully in the life of our Center regardless of his or her ability to contribute financially. The Juneau Shambhala Meditation Center thrives due to the generosity of its program participants, friends and members. Recognizing that generosity, trust and openness are interconnected, we offer all of our programs on a suggested-donation basis and welcome participants to donate less or more than the suggested amounts as they can afford.

The Juneau Shambhala Center depends on income from members’ and friends’ donations, program participant donations, and book sales. It’s how we pay rent and other bills, maintain an uplifted space for regular sitting, bring in special teachers and offer all our programs. Our survival now and planning for the future depends on the generosity of people like you.

We believe this Center offers our sangha and the greater Juneau community something unique and very special and we need those who benefit from it to do what they can to help keep it alive and growing. At the same time, we want everyone, regardless of financial resources, to feel welcome at all of our programs and events. No one should ever feel he or she can not participate because of financial limits.

There is a suggested donation for many classes and activities at the Center. If you can pay the full suggested amount (or more), we need you to do so. If you can’t, we ask you to be generous in contributing what you can. We trust you to decide how much, if anything, you can afford.

If you visit the Center often, please consider becoming a member and providing regular financial support. Please also consider contributing your time and energy. It’s a wonderful opportunity to practice the teachings and to really feel a part of the Shambhala Community. It’s also often a lot of fun! The Center depends on volunteers. If you would like to help, talk to your program coordinator, a meditation instructor, a council member or the Director about what you might be able to do. There are many ways to be involved.

We’re glad you are a part of the life of the center and hope you take advantage of all it has to offer!
